What to do when your Google listing disappears

A listing that's suddenly gone from Maps and Search isn't always a suspension. Here's how to tell what actually happened before you react.

1. Rule out a temporary blip

Google's results fluctuate. Check from a logged-out browser and a second device, and wait a few minutes between checks. If the listing reappears on its own, it was likely a transient indexing wobble, not a removal.

2. Tell the three common causes apart

  • Suspended: your Business Profile dashboard shows a suspension notice, and the listing is gone for everyone. Follow the suspension checklist.
  • Marked “permanently closed”: the listing still exists but is crossed out or hidden. This is often a bad edit or a malicious suggestion, and it quietly kills your calls.
  • Merged or duplicated: a duplicate listing was created or yours was merged, so the version people find is the wrong one.

3. Check what changed, and when

Look for a recent edit to the name, address, phone, category, or hours, since these frequently precede or accompany a disappearance. If you keep a dated change log (a PinSentinel Evidence Pack records this automatically), you can pinpoint the exact moment the profile changed, which is invaluable for any correction or appeal.

4. Take the right next step

  • If suspended: gather evidence and file a reinstatement request. See the checklist.
  • If wrongly “permanently closed”: open your Business Profile, mark it open, and submit the correction. Provide proof of operation if prompted.
  • If duplicated/merged:report the duplicate through Google's tools so the correct profile is restored.
