The GBP Suspension Survival Checklist

A Google Business Profile suspension feels like an emergency, but the response is methodical. Work through these steps in order. Don't panic-edit the listing, which often makes things worse.

1. Confirm it's actually suspended

Search your exact business name in Google and Google Maps from a logged-out browser. A suspended profile typically disappears from Maps and Search, or you'll see a “suspended” notice in your Business Profile dashboard. Results fluctuate, so confirm from more than one device before you act.

2. Stop editing

Resist the urge to change the name, address, categories, or photos right now. Edits during a suspension can reset your case or trigger another review. Leave the listing as-is until you understand why it was flagged.

3. Figure out the likely reason

Most suspensions trace back to a guideline issue: a recent NAP (name/address/phone) change, a keyword-stuffed business name, a virtual or mismatched address, a category that doesn't match the real business, or duplicate listings. Compare your profile against Google's current guidelines and note anything that changed recently.

4. Gather your evidence

This is where most appeals are won or lost. Assemble proof that the business is real and operating at the listed address: signage photos, a business license or registration, a utility bill, and a clear history of the profile before the suspension. A timestamped change log, like a PinSentinel Evidence Pack, shows exactly what the profile looked like and when it changed.

5. File the reinstatement request

Submit the appeal through Google's Business Profile reinstatement form. Be concise and factual: state that the business meets the guidelines, attach your evidence, and avoid emotional language. Submit once, because repeated submissions can slow things down.

6. Wait, and don't re-submit in a panic

Reinstatement reviews commonly take several weeks. Keep your evidence and any correspondence organized. If you're denied, you can usually appeal again with stronger documentation. This is why a clean, dated record matters.

The best time to prepare for this is before it happens. PinSentinel watches your profile and keeps the dated record for you, so step 4 is already done. Start watching a profile free.
